SSC MTS Salary 2026: Quick Answer
The SSC MTS salary starts at a basic pay of ₹18,000 a month in Pay Level 1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, and the same level applies to Havaldar in CBIC and CBN. With Dearness Allowance at 60%, HRA and Transport Allowance, our approximate calculation gives a gross of about ₹32,000 to ₹36,400 and an in-hand of about ₹29,200 to ₹33,500 a month before income tax, depending on the city.
Key takeaway: SSC's latest MTS notice (MTS and Havaldar Examination, 2025) places both posts in Pay Level 1, Group 'C', Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial. The ₹18,000 basic and the DA, HRA and TA rates are official; the gross and in-hand figures are our calculations. SSC does not print an in-hand salary table.

SSC MTS Salary Structure: What Is Added to Basic Pay
Monthly pay = basic pay + DA + HRA + Transport Allowance. Here is each component for a new MTS or Havaldar on ₹18,000 basic:
| Component | How it is calculated | Amount on ₹18,000 basic |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pay | Cell 1 of Level 1 | ₹18,000 |
| DA | 60% of basic | ₹10,800 |
| HRA, X city | 30% of basic | ₹5,400 |
| HRA, Y city | 20% of basic | ₹3,600 |
| HRA, Z city | 10% of basic | ₹1,800 |
| TA, listed higher-TA city | ₹1,350 + 60% DA on it | ₹2,160 |
| TA, other places | ₹900 + 60% DA on it | ₹1,440 |
| NPS deduction | 10% of (basic + DA) | ₹2,880 |
Why TA is ₹1,350 and not ₹3,600: Pay Levels 1 and 2 get ₹1,350 / ₹900 plus DA. The higher ₹3,600 / ₹1,800 rate starts once basic pay reaches ₹24,200 (DoE modification OM), which is cell 11 of Level 1.
DA status (26 October 2026)
DA rose from 58% to 60% of basic pay from 1 January 2026 (Cabinet decision of 18 April 2026). The instalment due from 1 July 2026 had not been announced when this page was written, so the figures use 60%. When it is announced, add the new percentage of ₹18,000 to the gross figures (each 1% adds ₹180).
SSC MTS In-Hand Salary 2026 (Approximate)
Method: basic ₹18,000 + DA 60% + HRA + TA with DA, minus NPS at 10% of (basic + DA). Income tax and other deductions are not included. "X city" here means a city that is HRA class X and also on the higher-TA list (for example Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru).
| City type | Basic | DA 60% | HRA | TA (with DA) | Gross (approx) | NPS 10% | In-hand before tax (approx) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| X city | ₹18,000 | ₹10,800 | ₹5,400 | ₹2,160 | ₹36,360 | ₹2,880 | ₹33,480 |
| Y city | ₹18,000 | ₹10,800 | ₹3,600 | ₹1,440 | ₹33,840 | ₹2,880 | ₹30,960 |
| Z city | ₹18,000 | ₹10,800 | ₹1,800 | ₹1,440 | ₹32,040 | ₹2,880 | ₹29,160 |
The Y-city row assumes the lower TA rate; a few Y cities are on the higher-TA list, which adds ₹720. If you are given government accommodation, HRA is not paid, so subtract the HRA column.
Worked example: MTS posted in Delhi
Basic ₹18,000 + DA ₹10,800 + HRA 30% ₹5,400 + TA ₹2,160 = ₹36,360 gross. After NPS of ₹2,880, in-hand before tax is about ₹33,480.
Worked example: Havaldar posted in a Z-class town
Basic ₹18,000 + DA ₹10,800 + HRA 10% ₹1,800 + TA ₹1,440 = ₹32,040 gross. After NPS of ₹2,880, in-hand before tax is about ₹29,160.
