SSC JE Syllabus 2026: Quick Answer
As per the official SSC JE 2026 notice (F. No. HQ-C-3019/1/2026-C-3), the exam has two computer-based papers. Paper-I is 200 marks in 2 hours (General Intelligence and Reasoning 50, General Awareness 50, your engineering subject 100) with 0.25 negative marking, and it is only qualifying. Paper-II is 300 marks (100 questions, 3 marks each) with 1 mark negative, and only its normalised score decides final merit.
Key takeaway: Paper-I no longer counts in the final merit. Notice para 13.2 says it is qualifying in nature and para 13.16 says only normalised Paper-II scores determine merit. Older guides that add Paper-I marks are outdated. Posts are Group B, Level 6 (₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400); tentative vacancies are 1,748 (para 3). As of 29 October 2026.

The engineering part is one of seven options, chosen at the time of application: Part-A Civil and Structural, Part-B Electrical, Part-C Mechanical, Part-D Computer Science and IT, Part-E Electronics and Telecommunication, Part-F Physics (Parts D to F for Scientific Assistant in IMD) and Part-G Telecommunication. The option cannot be changed later.
SSC JE Qualifying Marks 2026
| Category | Minimum in Paper-I and Paper-II |
|---|---|
| UR | 30% |
| OBC / EWS | 25% |
| All other categories | 20% |
Paper-I marks are normalised if the exam runs in several shifts, and candidates are shortlisted category-wise for Paper-II. Electrical and Mechanical papers are normalised against each other for merit and cut-off.
SSC JE General Intelligence and Reasoning Syllabus
The notice says this test includes verbal and non-verbal questions: analogies, similarities, differences, space visualisation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification and arithmetical number series. It also tests ability to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships.
SSC JE General Awareness Syllabus
Questions test awareness of the environment and its application to society, current events and everyday observations in their scientific aspect, plus India and its neighbours: history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity and scientific research. The notice states no special study of any discipline is required.
