For every discipline, the degree must be from a recognised university with at least 60% marks in either degree exam (55% for SC/ST/PwBD).

Service Conditions
- Probation: 1 year, which can be extended twice by six months each. Officers must pass the non-life Licentiate Exam of the Insurance Institute of India to be confirmed.
- Service Bond: Officers must serve for at least 4 years. Leaving earlier means paying damages equal to one year's gross salary (reduced in proportion to service).
- Posting: Minimum stay of 5 years at the first place of posting. Company Secretaries will mainly be posted at Head Office, Kolkata.
- Specialist officers may have to stay in their specialisation for up to 10 years.

Descriptive Test (Phase II)
- 30 marks, 30 minutes, in English, typed on the computer right after the objective test

- The descriptive test is qualifying only; its marks are not added for interview shortlisting or final selection
Negative Marking
One-fourth (0.25) of the marks of a question is deducted for every wrong answer in the objective tests of both Prelims and Mains. There is no penalty for questions left blank.
