- Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given after it. India's population is ageing faster than many people realise. Better health care and smaller families mean that the share of people above sixty is rising every year, and in some southern states it is already close to one in six. Traditionally, elderly parents lived with their children, who looked after them in old age. Today many young people move to cities or abroad for work, and their parents are often left alone in villages or small towns. Loneliness and the cost of treatment for long illnesses are the two biggest worries reported by older people in surveys. A growing number of local groups now run day-care centres where elderly people can spend the day, share meals and attend health camps. Some banks have also designed reverse mortgage products that allow a senior citizen to receive a monthly income against the value of a house while continuing to live in it. Experts say that such options will have to expand quickly, because the number of older people is expected to almost double in the next twenty-five years.
