- Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given after it. When the village of Kotla got its first cold storage unit, the change was not dramatic at first. Farmers who grew tomatoes and cauliflower had always sold their produce within a day of harvest, often at whatever price the trader offered. Now they could keep their crop fresh for two or three weeks and wait for a better rate in the town market. Within a season, the effect was visible. Prices that farmers received became steadier, and fewer vegetables were thrown away when the market was flooded. The unit was run by a farmers' producer organisation, so the rent it charged was modest and the profits stayed in the village. There were problems too. Power cuts meant the unit needed a diesel generator, which raised costs. Some farmers stored too much and then had to sell in a rush when the season ended. The organisation responded by setting limits for each member and by installing solar panels on the roof, which cut the diesel bill by nearly half.
Q1.How did farmers in Kotla sell their produce before the cold storage unit was built?
- A.Within a day of harvest, often at the trader's price
- B.After storing it for a month at home
- C.Through a government procurement centre

- E.Directly to exporters at fixed prices
Q2.Which of the following was an effect of the cold storage unit?
- A.The town market was closed
- B.Power cuts in the village ended
- C.Farmers received steadier prices and less produce was wasted
- D.Traders raised the rent of the unit
- E.Farmers stopped growing tomatoes
Q3.Why did the profits of the unit stay in the village?
- A.Because it was run by a farmers' producer organisation
- B.Because the government took no tax
- C.Because it sold diesel to farmers
- D.Because traders owned the unit
- E.Because it charged very high rent
