Ratio and Proportion: Key formulas
- If a : b = c : d, then a × d = b × c.
- Mean proportional of a and b = √(a × b); third proportional to a and b = b² ÷ a; fourth proportional to a, b, c = (b × c) ÷ a.
- To combine a : b and b : c, make the common term equal, then write a : b : c.
- Partnership: profit is shared in the ratio of (capital × time) of each partner.
- Alligation: (Cheaper : Dearer) quantity = (Dearer price − Mean price) : (Mean price − Cheaper price).
