SSC GD Syllabus 2026 at a Glance
The SSC GD Constable exam is one 60-minute computer-based test of 80 questions (160 marks) with four equal parts: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English or Hindi, 20 questions each. Every question carries 2 marks and 0.25 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. Questions are of Matriculation (Class 10) level. Candidates who qualify then face the PET (race), PST (height and chest), medical examination and document verification.
Key takeaway: This page follows the official SSC notice for the Constable (GD) in CAPFs and SSF, and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles Examination, 2026 (published on ssc.gov.in on 1 December 2025; 25,487 vacancies). SSC's calendar lists the next cycle, the 2027 exam, for January-March 2027. Until the 2027 notice is published, this is the latest official scheme, so prepare with it.
For the 2026 cycle, SSC published the list of candidates shortlisted for PET/PST on 12 October 2026.

SSC GD GK Syllabus (General Knowledge and General Awareness)
Questions test awareness of the environment around you, current events, everyday science, and India and its neighbouring countries, especially:

For English, cover spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms, spelling, sentence improvement, cloze test and a short comprehension passage.

How to Prepare for SSC GD Using the Syllabus
- Attempt widely, but accurately. The penalty is only 0.25 against a 2-mark reward: even a pure guess among four options has a slightly positive expected value (1/4 × 2 − 3/4 × 0.25 ≈ +0.31), and eliminating one option makes a guess clearly worth it.
- Score in Maths and Reasoning first. Both are Class 10 level; finish them in 30-35 minutes.
- Read current affairs daily. GK is the least predictable part; cover sports, schemes and appointments of the last six months.
- Start running now. The 5 km in 24 minutes target means an average of 12.5 km/h; build up gradually.
- Measure yourself early. Check your height and chest against the PST table, and keep the certificate needed for any relaxation ready.
