Financial Inclusion Schemes in India: The Short Answer
Financial inclusion means giving every person, especially the poor, women and rural households, access to affordable banking, credit, insurance and pension. India's main financial inclusion schemes are PM Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), the two insurance schemes PMJJBY and PMSBY, the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), PM Mudra Yojana, Stand-Up India and PM SVANidhi. PMJDY, launched in August 2014, is the National Mission for Financial Inclusion and the base on which the others run.
Key takeaway for bank exams (latest official data): PMJDY had 59.09 crore accounts with deposits of ₹3,16,514 crore and 41.29 crore RuPay cards as on 19 August 2026, with 32.92 crore accounts held by women (PIB, 27 August 2026). PMJJBY: ₹2 lakh life cover for ₹436 a year (age 18–50). PMSBY: ₹2 lakh accident cover for ₹20 a year (age 18–70). Mudra: collateral-free loans up to ₹20 lakh.

- Mixing up the premiums: ₹436 is PMJJBY, ₹20 is PMSBY.
- Quoting the old Mudra limit of ₹10 lakh. The limit is now ₹20 lakh (Tarun Plus).
- Quoting old SVANidhi tranches of ₹10,000 and ₹20,000.
- Writing APY's entry age as 18 to 60. It is 18 to 40; pension starts at 60.
