- Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given after it. Sunita was the first woman in her village to become a bank correspondent. Before she took up the job, villagers had to travel twenty kilometres to the nearest branch to withdraw their pension or deposit their savings. A trip took most of a day, and many elderly people simply left their money unclaimed. With a small handheld device and a fingerprint scanner, Sunita began offering basic banking services from a corner of her home. People could check their balance, withdraw cash and send money to relatives without leaving the village. At first, some men laughed at the idea of a woman handling money, but they changed their minds when they saw how quickly she helped their parents. Sunita also noticed that many women had accounts but never used them. She started holding meetings every Sunday to explain how savings and small loans worked. Within two years, the number of active accounts in the village had doubled. Today, Sunita trains other women from nearby villages to become correspondents. She says that the device in her hand is small, but the trust it has built is very large.
