From Goods Guard to Goods Train Manager
Railway Board renamed all guard posts as "Train Manager" by RBE No. 07/2022 dated 13.01.2022. The order says the new names do not change pay levels, method of recruitment, existing duties and responsibilities, seniority or promotion avenues.

Where promotion to Level 6 is by "suitability with prescribed benchmark", passing a pre-promotional course with a written test is mandatory. Level 6 starts at a basic pay of ₹35,400 (the same level as Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor in CEN 06/2026, per PIB). The order does not fix a number of years for promotion, so we do not quote one.
