RRB ALP Salary 2026: Quick Answer
The official CEN 01/2026 places the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) in Pay Level 2 of the 7th CPC, with an initial pay of ₹19,900 a month. With Dearness Allowance now at 63% (from 1 July 2026), HRA and Transport Allowance, our approximate calculation gives a gross of about ₹35,900 to ₹40,600 and an in-hand of about ₹32,650 to ₹37,350 before income tax, depending on the city. Running allowance, which loco running staff earn on top, is not printed in the CEN, so we add no figure for it.

RRB ALP Basic Pay and Pay Level
Pay Level 2 of the 7th CPC pay matrix starts at ₹19,900 and, as printed in the pay matrix, runs up to ₹63,200 at the top cell. A new ALP joins at cell 1 and normally moves one cell up with each annual increment. The CEN also says selected candidates undergo training wherever prescribed and receive only a stipend during that period, so your first full Level 2 pay starts after training.

RRB ALP In-Hand Salary 2026 With DA 63%
Formula: gross = basic + DA (63% of basic) + HRA + Transport Allowance (with DA on it); in-hand = gross − NPS (10% of basic + DA). Income tax, professional tax and railway-specific deductions are not included. Level 2 is below Level 3, so we use the lower TA slab (₹1,350 in listed higher-TA cities and ₹900 elsewhere, plus 63% DA on it), the same convention as our other Level 2 pages.

Worked example: ALP posted in a Y-class city
- Basic pay: ₹19,900
- DA at 63%: ₹12,537
- HRA at 20%: ₹3,980 (only if railway quarters are not provided)
- TA: ₹900 plus 63% = ₹1,467
- Gross: ₹37,884; NPS 10% of (₹19,900 + ₹12,537) = ₹3,244
- In-hand before tax: about ₹34,640
If railway accommodation is allotted, HRA is not paid, so subtract the HRA column from the gross.
RRB ALP Running Allowance
Loco running staff are paid a running allowance for kilometres run on duty. It depends on the kilometres worked, the type of duty and the Railway Board's rates in force, and the CEN does not publish a rate. Several coaching sites quote a fixed monthly running allowance; we do not, because no official figure is in the notice. Treat any in-hand figure that includes a large flat running allowance as an estimate. When Railway Board's current rates are confirmed from an official circular, we will add them with an "as of" date.

How DA 63% Changed ALP Pay
DA moved from 60% to 63% of basic pay from 1 July 2026. On a ₹19,900 basic, 3% is ₹597 a month extra, plus a small rise in TA. Arrears for July to October depend on the Department of Expenditure's order, so we state no arrear amount until that order is issued.

The 8th Pay Commission has no notified recommendation yet, so the 7th CPC matrix still applies. When a new matrix is notified, the pay level and basic will change; we will update this page from the official order.
