- Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given after it. In a village two hours from the nearest town, a woman with a persistent cough no longer has to lose a day's wages to see a doctor. At the local health centre, a trained worker connects her by video to a physician in the district hospital, who listens to her symptoms, reviews readings from a digital stethoscope and prescribes medicine that the centre stocks. Telemedicine of this kind has grown rapidly, helped by cheaper data and wider phone ownership. It saves patients travel and time, and it allows scarce specialists to reach more people. For conditions that need regular follow-up, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, it can make the difference between steady care and none at all. It is not, however, a replacement for a physical examination. Some conditions cannot be judged through a screen, and a poor connection can turn a consultation into guesswork. Patients who are old, unfamiliar with technology or uncomfortable discussing health over video may also be left out unless someone helps them. The model works best as part of a chain rather than on its own. A well-equipped local centre, a trained assistant at the patient's side, a reliable referral path for cases that need a hospital, and medicines available nearby together turn a video call into real treatment. Without these links, telemedicine risks becoming advice that the patient cannot act on.
